Reports to: Director of Renewables
Department: Renewable Energy
Location: Head Office based (UK), with hybrid working potential
Working Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8am to 5pm
  • Friday: 8am to 4pm

With an in-house design capability and directly employed workforce, the organisation delivers turnkey solutions across construction, fit-out, and decarbonisation projects. Services include photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar carports, solar thermal, heat pumps, combined heat and power, EV charging infrastructure, and microgrid solutions.


Role Overview
This role supports the design and development of commercial Solar PV systems, from early concept through to operations and maintenance. Projects include rooftop, ground mounted, and solar carport installations, with exposure to wider decarbonisation technologies such as heat pumps and microgrids.
Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the successful candidate will produce accurate system designs, layouts, and technical documentation in line with project requirements, industry standards, and internal quality processes.


Key Responsibilities
System Design & Modelling

  • Produce Solar PV system designs including layouts, schematics, and component selection
  • Use PV design software such as PVsyst, PV*Sol, and AutoCAD to model system performance and generate yield reports

Technical Documentation

  • Prepare detailed drawings, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
  • Maintain accurate records of design changes and technical specifications

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations including MCS, IEC, NEC, and applicable safety codes
  • Support preparation of documentation for grid connection and regulatory approvals

Project Support

  • Contribute technical input to feasibility studies and tender submissions
  • Liaise with sales, project delivery, and operations teams to ensure design requirements are met

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay up to date with Solar PV technologies, design best practice, and industry developments
  • Participate in training and professional development activities

Operations & Maintenance

  • Assist with the preparation of O&M manuals and as built design documentation

Person Specification
Essential

  • Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in Solar PV design, including junior roles or internships
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and PV*Sol
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and grid connection requirements
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Desirable

  • Experience with additional design tools such as PVsyst, K2, VDV, SolarEdge, or Helioscope
  • Understanding of mounting system design
  • Awareness of renewable energy incentives and PPA structures
  • Exposure to energy storage systems or hybrid solutions
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM Regulations
